Job DescriptionPosition Title:
Quality Assurance/Control Lab Technician SUMMARY The Quality Assurance/Control Lab Technician is responsible for conducting analytical tests on experimental samples submitted by the Production/Shipping & Receiving Team.
The Lab Technician is responsible for the interpretation and reporting of test results and all Quality control data associated with analytical methods performed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned.
) Provides effective and efficient service to operations team, accepts projects and tasks, diligently strive to continually maintain a clean, professional and safe working lab environment.
Ensures quality awareness to the operations team and cooperation with all departments within the plant.
Performs the efficient workload day-to-day laboratory activities; routinely inspect and audit the lab equipment to ensue calibration, and reports problems or concerns.
Makes recommendations on the refinement of plant measurement and sampling techniques; establishing and documenting quality testing procedures and results.

Tests chemical and biological samples and incoming raw materials to determine their make-up, properties, and adherence to specifications; then advises if the samples are within specified control limits.
Monitors supplies and preferred vendor network, tracks inventory, and performs order requests for lab supplies and equipment to ensure adequate supplies are available.
Communicates regularly with the operators and the production management team to keep them informed of chemical and biological testing results, and off quality products.
Performs and participates in lab maintenance, such as performing preventative maintenance as required, and diagnosing and troubleshooting lab equipment maintenance related issues.
Responsible for monitoring QC/QA, GMP, cGMP, sanitation, pest control programs & processes and performing internal audits.
Participate in internal and third party audits to maintain the highest standards of food safety, record keeping, sanitation and pest control.
Monitor and perform laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Points (HACCP) and Quality Management System (QMS) facility specific programs.
Participate in continuous improvement activities, which result in cost savings, higher efficiencies and high quality product performance.
Monitor certifying agencies specifications, regulations and requirements to ensure raw material, measuring system(s) and finished product compliance.
Participates in the implementation and training of new Lab Technicians and other plant employees on QA/QC Lab processes and procedures, operation of lab equipment, sampling and testing protocols, company Enterprise Resource Planning system and site specific CMMS system (Computerized Maintenance Management System).
Compliance with all Environmental, Health & Safety programs, policies, procedures and regulations to support a safe working environment.
Perform other related duties as directed that correspond to the overall function of this position.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Indirect supervision of less experienced lab technicians Not responsible for discipline, pay or hiring decisions.
May make input on hiring decisions.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE B.
S.
Degree in Food Sciences, Chemistry, Microbiology, Agricultural Science or General Science preferred.
2 to 5 years of QA/QC laboratory technician experience in a chemical processing, food & beverage manufacturing, grain handling and processing industry.
Must be thoroughly familiar with QC and QA procedures and systems, with broad knowledge of physical, chemical and microbiological sciences.
Experienced in Statistical Process Control, training and development, and be able to demonstrate practical knowledge in these areas.
Computer expertise and proficiency with MS Windows, MS Office and other related technology(s) to perform the functions of the position.
Must possess excellent verbal and written communication, analytical, problem solving skills and the ability to build effective relationships.
EQUIPMENT USED Computer, Keyboard, Mouse, Monitor, Computer Software Programs, Telephone, Copier, HMI/DCS Operating System, two-way radios, cell phones, and other written or electronic resources.
HPLC, GC, LECO, NIR, Microscopes, Hydrometers, Autoclaves, Centrifuges, Refractometer, pH Meter and other lab equipment specific to grain grading, ethanol, DDG, and water treatment production.
Experience with the operation of forklift trucks, and related material handling equipment.
